The Interaction Institute of Social Change (IISC) is pleased to announce the appointment of April Nishimura as its Interim Systems Change and Operations Leader.

April Nishimura has fifteen years of experience building power and resilience in communities of color. Her expertise is in the nonprofit and philanthropic sector and is informed by her prior experience as a grassroots community organizer and as an LGBTQ woman of color.

Previously, April worked as director of capacity building at RVC. In this role, she developed a team of BIPOC capacity builders, who supported numerous grassroots BIPOC organizations to actualize their dreams for their communities. Prior to this, April spearheaded the governance model for a collective impact initiative of over 100 environmental and justice organizations in the Puyallup Watershed. While in Seattle, April co-founded and co-directed an organization on the frontlines of healing justice, fostering leadership development for LGBTQ BIPOC working for social justice.

April is fascinated by organizational development and change management. She is passionate about creating teams and workplaces that unlock people’s full potential. As a lifelong learner, April looks for the connectors and principles between fields. Her current studies center on transformation towards wholeness, healing and justice as well as responsible uses of power. Read more about April.
